Sheriff: 4 busted for meth, stealing farm equipment

VAN ZANDT COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - On Friday March 30th around 15:30 p.m., the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office and Investigators responded to a call in reference to a theft in progress on VZCR #1308 in Canton.  This was called in by a concerned citizen that saw people on the property and knew they did not belong there.  Upon arrival Deputies were able to make contact with four subjects, confirmed the thefts and also found two (2) of the suspects in possession of Methamphetamines.  Arrested were:

Joe Benson Rogers, 28, of Grand Saline      

 - Theft of Property $1,500 to $20,000 with bond set at $25,000

 Theft of Property $20,000 to $100,000 with bond set at $50,000

 Poss. Of Controlled Substance PG1 >=4 Gr<200 Gr. with bond  set at $20,000.

Misty Hewitt, 32, of Canton

- Theft of Property $1,500 to $20,000, with bond set at $25,000

Theft of Property $20,000 to $100,000 with bond set at $50,000

Poss. Of Controlled Substance PG1 <1 Gr with a bond set at                                                             $10,000

Thomas Eric Knepp, 34, of Canton          

-  Theft of Property $1,500 to $20,000 with bond set at $25,000

Theft of Property $20,000 to $100,000 with bond set at $50,000

Michael Lynn McCarty, 32, of Wills Point

 - Theft of Property $1,500 to $20,000 with bond set at $25,000      Theft of Property $20,000 to $100,000 with bond set at $50,000

Subsequent investigation revealed a tractor at the scene was stolen and several pieces of farm equipment were recovered from previous thefts from this location.  The recovered property had an estimated value of over $25,000.
