Volunteer Texas firefighter charged with arson of church

Released by the Texas Forest Service:

ABILENE, TX (KLTV) - A lieutenant with the Hamby Volunteer Fire Department has been charged with arson in connection with a wildfire set last year near Abilene.

Taylor Dupree Partain, 24, of Abilene was charged by Texas Forest Service law enforcement officers on Tuesday after the case was filed in Jones County.

The second-degree felony charge is related to a wildfire set in May 2011 on County Road 313 in Jones County. The fire was extinguished by local firefighters; Texas Forest Service was not called to respond.

Texas Forest Service law enforcement officers began investigating Partain after he was charged by the Taylor County Sheriff's Department last week with a separate count of arson in connection with a fire at Hamby United Methodist Church.

A joint investigation by Texas Forest Service and the sheriff's departments in Taylor and Jones counties led to the latest charge.

Partain is being held in the Taylor County Jail.
