New Whitehouse police chief raising morale, community spirit

Whitehouse is welcoming a new police chief after former police chief Rick Waller resigned.

Craig Shelton became the new chief of police after former chief Rick Waller resigned.

Shelton is a 27-year veteran of law enforcement.

Shelton was not able to comment on the alleged discrepancies with the department's use of city fuel and high turnover rates,

However, he says morale at the department is high, and he's already promoted three officers and filled two positions.

"The morale, it seems like it's really good now. If you see some of them now versus  when I first got here, it just seems like a whole new department. The guys seem excited, glad to come to work, and that's what we want. We want to be involved with our community. We want more community policing," said Chief Shelton.

Chief Shelton says he wants his department to go out and meet the citizens in the community, so they can know their concerns.
