Trayvon's Mom: 'My son was protecting himself'

FLORIDA (CNN/KLTV) - The parents of Trayvon Martin said Wednesday that they have faith in the authorities investigating the case and are patiently awaiting justice for their son's death.

Sybrina Fulton, Trayvon's mother, said the family is trying to be patient, and also press for justice.

Her 17-year-old son was shot to death last month by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer.

Zimmerman says he killed martin in self-defense after the unarmed teen attacked him.

Fulton says she does not believe that is the case.

"I have no confidence that my son chased this guy," said Fulton, "I really believe that this guy chased my son, and my son was protecting himself. My son was exercising his Stand Your Ground rule."

While investigators are sorting out the facts, coast-to-coast demonstrations have taken place almost daily, with the hoodie becoming a symbol of the public outcry.

Trayvon was wearing a hoodie when he was killed.

There is a vigil Wednesday night for Trayvon in Longview. It starts at 7:30 at the Heritage Plaza in downtown Longview.
