Coaches selected for All Star basketball game

Lindale girls basketball coach Greg Strawn has been selected to coach in the Azalea Orthopedics All-Star high school basketball game on April 14.  Strawn was suspended from coaching by Lindale ISD for the final two weeks of the basketball season for what Superintendent Stan Surratt called 'in game behavior.'

Strawn was selected for the all star game before his suspension was announced by Lindale ISD.  Strawn did help lead Lindale to a district championship. Several Lindale parents and players protested the suspension of Strawn.  Strawn remained at Lindale High School as a teacher and track and field coach.

Strawn will coach the Girls East Team.  Joining Strawn will be Frankston's Christi Coker (Girls West Team, Troup's Brent Smith (Boys East Team) and Jacksonville's Brent Kelley (Boys West Team).

"We are proud to announce this year' coaches for the 2012 year Azalea All-Star games, the committee members believe these high caliber coaches will make for an exciting event," said Dan Fuller, Azalea head athletic trainer and coordinator of the annual event.

Fuller says the all star teams will be announced next week.  The teams will include East Texas seniors nominated by their high school coaches.

The boys and girls games will be played at TJC's Wagstaff Gym.

Doors open at 5:00 p.m. April 14. The girl's game time is slated for 5:30 p.m. with the boy's game to follow at approximately 7:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $6.00 for adult and $3.00 for children under the age of 10.

All proceeds from the All-Star game are donated to the Bethesda Clinic.
