Longview Minister Defends Patriotism

A Longview minister is firing back at those who have questioned his patriotism. Grace Creek minister David Benson came under fire after we interviewed him on Wednesday about his views on the war a year later.

"We've come to live in America we've chosen it and we could be elsewhere in the world but we've hear because one we belive god has placed us here, and second we love it, and we'll fight for our nation as our son is doing right now and i totally support our president and the actions hes taken over in Iraq," says the English born Benson.

Bensons son Stephen is finishing his second tour on the USS Boxer in Iraq.  He is  a staunch supporter of the fight for freedom and the war effort, and like any parent has concerns for his son's safety.

"We couldn't be prouder of him, and as I quite rightly said any person that has a relative over there would be concerned for their safety," said Benson.

He says the church got numerous calls complaining about him not being patriotic and supportive of the war, something he says is totally false.

"Nothing could be farther from the truth. I just want to put that record straight whatever misconceptions, that we're totally loyal as a family and myself personally," said Benson.

Benson's son Stephen is expected home soon from a second tour on Iraq, and to have an early discharge from the Navy by May.
