Canton girls become powerhouse powerlifters

They may look sweet, but once these girls step in the weight room, it's all business.

"People look at us and say you're so small and so cute," said Canton Homecoming Queen Raegan Fields.  "We have a great coach."

Coach Howard Bell has helped produce a powerhouse powerlifting program.  This past week Canton brought home it's 3rd straight 3A girls state champsionship in Corpus Christi.

"There's something in the water," joked Fields.

A school record 17 lifters qualified for state, with eleven girls placing in the top 5 of their weight class.

"It keeps getting better every year," said Stephanie Brown.  "We're not losing interest at all. It's pretty awesome."

The girls are already talking about championship number four.

"We've got to get that fourth one," said Shebi Jeanes.  "I don't think our school has ever had something like that. So it would just be really great for us."

Another championshp is very possible.  Canton returns 13 of their 17 state champion lifters next year.
