The leader of one of East Texas' largest school district is wanting to join a statewide movement-- away from standardized tests.
Tyler ISD Superintendent Randy Reid said Friday that he and the board are looking over a resolution that is spreading statewide. It asks state lawmakers to move away from standardized tests like this year's STAAR test, and instead rely more on the district's end of course exams.
"We just want to make sure that any evaluation system really looks for more than just that single snapshot on one particular day on one particular test," Reid said, "That's an important piece of it but its not all there is."
Reid told me that other school districts are looking at this same resolution. Tyler's school board will re-visit the issue next month.
