Students raise funds to stock food pantry shelves

An empty food pantry is now filled for needy East Texans, thanks to some students.

A group of Spring Hill students arrived at the Church of Grace Creek on Thursday with more than $850 worth of food they had collected.

The food will go into the Grace Creek Food Pantry to be distributed to the needy.

The kids made the effort as part a school program to get involved, and help their communities in any way they can.

Spring Hill School Counselor, Christi Janecek says, "These are the people that are going to be the adults in our community so hopefully we're giving them that desire to serve other people and sending them out into the world with that kind of heart."

"To see them sowing into our community, filling up Grace food pantry and our mission is reaching people and building lives; the school is reaching people, we're helping to build lives together so we're proud of them," said Grace Creek Pastor, Matt Benson.

The food is expected to last the pantry around two months.
