U.S. Senate hopeful welcomed in Longview

A U.S. Senate hopeful was welcomed in Longview.

Former Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert was welcomed at Chapel services at LeTourneau University on Wednesday.

Leppert, who is currently running for Kay Bailey Hutchison's senate seat, was on campus to talk with students about faith and work integration as a businessman and politician.

Experienced in construction and finance, Leppert says that's what's missing in Washington.

"The people that represent us don't have any concept of servant leadership," says Tom Leppert, "The example of that is they have pensions, benefits like health care that are completely different than any business in Longview. We need to change that, we need to bring those benefits back in line like the private sector. Because until we change the culture in Washington, it's going to be very difficult to get at some of those policy questions we talk about."

Leppert is running for the U.S. Senate as a republican.

He will face Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst in the May 29 primary.
