Lung cancer survivor plans to walk 2 miles with only one lung

68-year-old Jimmie June Lewis says until a year ago she was blessed with perfect health.

But last year she was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma, a rare form of lung cancer that affects non-smokers.

Doctors removed Lewis' right lung to keep the cancer from spreading.

"After my recovery from that, I had four chemo treatments," Lewis told us.

In an effort to build up her lung capacity, Lewis has been walking. That's when she noticed the Azalea 10K online, and began training for the 2-mile walking portion of the event.

"Hadn't walked 2 miles yet. But, you know, that would be a real challenge," Lewis said.

However, last Sunday she managed to walk the whole course.

And, after living for a year with just one lung, Lewis plans to do it again during the Azalea 10K and 2-Mile Walk on Saturday.

"You have to be determined and think positive," Lewis told us about her recovery.

She hopes her testimony will encourage others in her situation.
