Meals on Wheels Ministry announced today that it will be holding Mayors For Meals Day as a part of its March For Meals campaign on March 21st during lunchtime. Mayors and elected officials from 25 cities will be participating in the event to show their support for the community's seniors.
"We are excited about having 25 Mayors and officials from 25 different cities in East Texas participate in our event. This is 100% participation for the communities where we have local sites. We hope to raise awareness and recruit as many people as we possibly can to volunteer and help us end hunger in East Texas," said Mike Powell, CEO of MOWM.
Councilmember Martin Heines of Tyler Texas will be helping MOWM, Mike Powell, and Dr. Sharpe, President of the MOWM Board of Directors deliver meals on March 21st at 10:45 am at the 3001 Robertson site and with continued support from the city MOWM will continue to help those in need.
March For Meals is a national campaign, initiated by Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA), which seeks to raise awareness of senior hunger and to encourage action on the part of the local community. Senior nutrition programs across the United States, like MOWM promote March For Meals in their local communities through public events, partnerships with local businesses, volunteer recruitment and fundraising initiatives. Mayors For Meals Day is a component of March For Meals that utilizes the involvement of local Mayors and other local elected officials.
Meals on Wheels serves over 3,000 meals each week day to the elderly and disabled across East Texas.
