Marijuana, cash found during raid at property near ETX school

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Angelina County Sheriff's deputies are cataloging evidence from a drug raid Wednesday that produced a large sum of cash and marijuana.

Deputies went to a residence off of Lufkin Avenue on Wednesday.  They were following up on a tip from San Augustine that there was illegal drug activity at the house.  They searched the house and adjacent building.  They said they confiscated about 30 lbs. of marijuana, and $3,600 in cash.

Investigators said when they arrived, the suspect, identified as James Steven Johnson, 39, drove his car into a pasture and then fled.  They said he was living at the residence with his parents.

The property is located less than a mile from Lufkin High School, however, deputies noted it is not inside the Drug Free Zone.

Deputies said Johnson is expected to turn himself in to law enforcement.  A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
