WEB EXCLUSIVE: Students produce video for Lady Antebellum prom contest

HENRYVILLE, IN (WAVE) – The push to get the Grammy award-winning trio Lady Antebellum to perform at Henryville Junior-Senior High School's prom this spring continues.

A country music fan from the tornado-ravaged town recently submitted a video, and now several high school students are doing the same.

Lady A will perform a 45 minute concert at the junior, senior or reunion prom of the winning entrant. The trio says on its website that it will judge the videos based on creativity, originality and school or hometown pride.

Junior Ty Griffin is the driving force behind the student project. Many of them gave up their Sunday for one of the entry's final shots.

"We really want to get her for our prom.  We need something to lift our spirits," said Junior Morgan Guthrie.

"I am a huge Lady A fan! I love them! So for them to come to my prom, that would be absolutely extraordinary with all the damage and everything that's happened to our school, we need something like this to help bring our spirits up," said Senior Erin Hairston.

While Henryville may be a small town, the sense of community is huge. That's just one thing they hope to express in their video.

"The final shot is just the huge community gathering because the concert [criteria is to] show how the community works together," Griffin said.

The students said they plan to have the entry finished this week.

In addition to their submission, Melissa Nasby produced and entered a video in Lady Antebellum's Own the Night contest.

Nasby's video features images of the EF4 tornado and the deadly destruction it left in its wake, accompanied by the Lady Antebellum song One Day You Will. 97.5 WMAZ reported that Nasby is the mother of elementary school children in Henryville and that she wanted to do something nice for the older students who lost their school in the March 2 tornado.

Henryville High School students won't return to school until April 2, and it isn't clear when or where a prom will be held.
