NEW DIANA, TX (KLTV) -

An East Texas High School Ag Sciences teacher has been killed in a shooting on Friday.

Superintendent Joyce W. Sloan said she was told of the incident this afternoon. Sloan says authorities told her that teacher David Gross was shot after entering his home in the Union Grove area. Sloan also said she was told an intruder was inside the home.

According to Upshur County Sheriff Anthony Betterton, Gross suffered a single gunshot wound. The sheriff has not confirmed whether they are looking for any one or if there has been an arrest.

Gregg County Sheriff Maxey Cerliano has confirmed with KLTV that his office is assisting the Upshur County Sheriff's Department with the investigation. Sheriff Cerliano also confirmed the Texas Rangers are assisting.

When asked about an intruder, or whether any one was in custody or on the loose, Cerliano referred KLTV to the Upshur County Sheriff's Department.

Gross served as the agriculture sciences teacher at New Diana High School. Gross' father is on the New Diana ISD Board of Trustees.
