Scattered light rain today, more storms possible this weekend

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Last night most of East Texas received between 1 and 3 inches of rain as a strong cold front moved across the area. In its wake, much cooler temperatures are in store for East Texas the next two days along with a chance of rain. Today we are not expecting widespread heavy rain as the mid level energy is well to our west. However, the flow aloft will keep southerly winds aloft running over the cooler temperatures at the surface, creating clouds and scattered light rain showers today into the evening.

The cold front that stalled to our south last night will begin to move north as a warm front tomorrow. As this occurs showers and thunderstorms will redevelop late Saturday and over spread East Texas Saturday night. Highs on Saturday will remain in the middle 50s in most areas however, our extreme southern counties will probably reach the lower to middle 60s during the late afternoon or evening hours as the front moves through.

Sunday the warm front will move north through all of East Texas. This will cause or temperatures to be much warmer Sunday afternoon. Highs will reach the upper 60s north to lower 70s south. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue to be a possibility with a few strong to severe storms possible in the afternoon. By Monday morning much of the area will have received between 3 to 6 inches of rain with this system. The John Tyler Lions always seem to look sharp in their uniforms. But thanks to East Texas lawyer Keith Miller, the Lions will look better and play safer. Helmets that advertise lowering the impact of hits, and possibly reduce the amount of concussions, come with a hefty price-tag. Miller's donation of 7,500 dollars, will go to help the lions cover that cost. "Keith Miller's been a big sponsor of John Tyler High School football program for years now.  I know it's...More >>

The last time we talked about the Kilgore Bulldogs, quarterback Buddy Jackson and wide receiver Jonathan Shepherd were apart of the 800-meter relay team that won gold at the 2017 state track meet. But today they are back in the pads, and looking to turn their speed into touchdowns.  Competing in District 9-4A, Kilgore has always had a strong run game that helped them become the 2016 District Champs.
