Tulsa courthouse shooting suspect's brother shot to death by police

TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Authorities in Oklahoma are investigating whether the gunman involved in a shootout near a Tulsa courthouse yesterday was trying to commit what's known as "suicide by cop."

They say they still don't know why the man fired a handgun into the air in a crowded plaza, drawing fire from sheriff's deputies.

The suspect, Andrew Dennehy, was wounded, along with a sheriff's deputy and a bystander.

Police are confirming that Dennehy's brother was shot and killed in 2005 by police officers who wanted to question him in a murder case. They say Brian Dennehy had fired at an officer in the parking lot of an apartment complex before he was killed. He had been a suspect in the beating death of his grandfather.

Andrew Dennehy remains in critical condition at a Tulsa hospital.

The deputy and the bystander who were shot are also hospitalized with what are described as non-life-threatening injuries.
