East Texas home burned to the ground

An East Texas couple lost their home in an early morning fire, and neighbors said they might not even know yet.

It happened around 3:30 Wednesday morning on the 1300 block of County Road 2399, just west of Winnsboro.

"It was reported a total loss it was fully involved had to be attacked through the exterior," said Drew Fpfiffer, Hopkins County Fire Department.

"My neighbor came over and started banging on my door saying that the rent house was on fire and when we got here it was already burned up," said Tiffany Tillema, grandfather owns home.

Tiffany said the house belongs to her grandfather who was renting it out to a Rose and Clarence Worrell, who recently moved here from Palestine.

They were gone when the fire broke out.

"Yeah, there were a couple of explosions. The ammunition in the house was going off. He has guns and he's on oxygen and the oxygen tanks exploded too," said Tiffany.

Tiffany said as of now she has not gotten in touch with the Worrell's, but said she knows they don't have any insurance.

"They don't have a lot of money and I believe all of their belongings were inside the house and now they don't have anything, as far as I know," said Tiffany.

Even though it's possible the couple lost everything in the fire, one thing did make it out.

"I was so grateful that no one was inside because it's such a small house and I'm sure it went up pretty quick and the little dog is the only thing that's left and it's over at my house and I'm really surprised it survived," said Tiffany.

The Worrell's are expected to come back later this week.

Hopkins County fire officials are still investigating the fire.
