WEB EXCLUSIVE: Restaurant burglarized, cash register undisturbed

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Myrtle Beach Police are investigating a reported burglary at a Myrtle Beach pizza restaurant with a bizarre set of evidence.

An incident report obtained by WMBF News states that officers responded to a reported burglary at Gem City Pizza on Main Street in Myrtle Beach just before 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

Two employees of the business reporting the burglary said the building was secure when they locked up at 3 a.m.

When they returned to work that morning they found that the side door was forced open though the deadbolt lock remained intact. The door frame was broken, the report said.

Entering the business, the victims noticed that lights they had unplugged when closing up hours before had been plugged in again, and the bar stools they had stacked on the bar had been taken down.

The victims also stated an attic access in the women's restroom was damaged, but that attic did not access any of the adjacent businesses.

The only item the victims could identify as missing was an Apple iPod normally in their bar area. The report states that the unsecured cash register was undisturbed.

One employee told police that he had received harassing messages on his Craigslist account, which shows the business location, but he was unaware who those messages had come from. Police are still investigating if those incidents are related.

Anyone with information about this crime should report it to Myrtle Beach Police.
