Neches girls win 3rd straight state championship

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Senior guard Roddricka Patton scored 31 points, leading Neches to its third consecutive girls' Class 1A Division II state championship Saturday night with a 60-41 win over Lipan.

The diminutive but dynamic Patton ran circles around Lipan's defense for driving layups.

She also stepped out for all three of her team's 3-pointers and went 14 of 18 from the free throw line.

Patton starred in all three of Neches' championship seasons and came into this year's tournament averaging a triple-double in points, rebounds and assists.

She concentrated on scoring in the final and equaled Lipan's entire team through three quarters.

She scored 23 points as Neches (34-5) took a 44-23 lead into the fourth.

Shauna Coleman scored 18 points and Zully Martinez scored 16 for Lipan (34-4).

Helmets that advertise lowering the impact of hits, and possibly reduce the amount of concussions, come with a hefty price-tag. Miller's donation of 7,500 dollars, will go to help the lions cover that cost. "Keith Miller's been a big sponsor of John Tyler High School football program for years now.  I know it's...More >>

The last time we talked about the Kilgore Bulldogs, quarterback Buddy Jackson and wide receiver Jonathan Shepherd were apart of the 800-meter relay team that won gold at the 2017 state track meet. But today they are back in the pads, and looking to turn their speed into touchdowns.  Competing in District 9-4A, Kilgore has always had a strong run game that helped them become the 2016 District Champs.
