More than a thousand pack Rose City Chili Festival

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

More than a thousand packed the Gander Mountain parking lot in Tyler. But, it wasn't to do some shopping...it was for the 31st Rose City Chili Festival.

Tents lined a row packed with chili makers, chili tasters and even some dancing "leprechauns."

"This is for our showmanship and we decided to be leprechauns this time of year. Because, Saint Patty's Day is right down the road and this stuff was on sale," Sam Lackey told us.

Lackey and his friends dressed up in Irish apparel to promote their Irish chili.

Chili experts came out to showcase their hard work and effort, while judges kept score.

But, John Daniels, also known as the "Great Pepper," told us the festival is more than just chili.

"All the proceeds will go to the Shriners Burn Institute in Galveston," said Daniels.

At least 50 cooks came out to showcase their chili.
