White Oak boys advance to state for first time since 1959

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS (KLTV) - For the first time since 1959, the White Oak Roughnecks are advancing to the state tournament.

White Oak defeated Kountze 65-63 in the 2A regional finals to run their record to an amazing 35-1 and run their winning streak to 30 straight.

After falling behind 19-10 at the end of the 1st quarter, the 'Necks bounced back to take a 33-31 lead at halftime.

They would increase their lead to 7 before Kountze would mount an 18-0 run to lead 53-42 entering the 4th quarter.

""We have an inner peace with us, I think we get it from God," said junior Levi Yancy, "We just kept the faith, we knew we were not going to lose, we just had to hang in there."

White Oak would charge back with a 19-7 run to eventually take the lead 62-60, then held on for the win.

"We put too much into it to just quit, we put our heart and souls into this game, I knew we were going to fight back and make plays and be clutch," said senior Caleb Carr, "And I think God takes care of this team."

The Roughnecks will play Friday morning at either 8:30 or 10:00 with an opponent yet to be determined.

"It is not my team, this is White Oak's team," said head coach Ron Boyett, "There are alot of people up there that have just as much to do with it as I do, so it is fun for this community to be acting like this."
