East Texan goes on free throw marathon

CHANDLER, TX (KLTV) -

Tom Booth started at 8 a.m. Shoot a free, then another, then another.  A member of Chandler First Assembly of God, Booth is shooting free throws for 24 straight hours.  Booth accepted pledges and donations for each shot, with all the money helping raise money for a local food pantry and a missionary that is going to the Ukraine in June to put on soccer camps for street kids.

Booth gets a ten minute break every hour.  Then he's back to the free throw line shooting shot after shot.  This is his second year in a row he's completed a 24 hour shooting marathon.  He learned from year one.

"We did a lot of revamping this year," said Booth.  "We have two basketballs going. I've got somebody catching the ball and I've got a foot massager. That helps. But it's just a bigger event this year. We're going to make this an annual community event. You just know every shot is going to make a difference and that's what we're looking for."

If you would like to help, send all donations to:

The John Tyler Lions always seem to look sharp in their uniforms. But thanks to East Texas lawyer Keith Miller, the Lions will look better and play safer. Helmets that advertise lowering the impact of hits, and possibly reduce the amount of concussions, come with a hefty price-tag. Miller's donation of 7,500 dollars, will go to help the lions cover that cost. "Keith Miller's been a big sponsor of John Tyler High School football program for years now.  I know it's...More >>

The last time we talked about the Kilgore Bulldogs, quarterback Buddy Jackson and wide receiver Jonathan Shepherd were apart of the 800-meter relay team that won gold at the 2017 state track meet. But today they are back in the pads, and looking to turn their speed into touchdowns.  Competing in District 9-4A, Kilgore has always had a strong run game that helped them become the 2016 District Champs.
