Hamilton Co. using 'Reverse 911' while siren system is under construction

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Hamilton County Emergency Management is issuing a proactive alert to all county residents and visitors to tune in to local radio and television weather broadcasts and alerts to get the latest information about potential severe weather.

County EMA will also activate the Project CODESPEAR system, which automatically telephones all land line telephones in the county and all cell phones that have been registered by their owners with county EMA for the purpose of receiving verbal message warnings.

The county is taking this extraordinary precaution due to the fact that the outdoor warning siren system is under construction to be completely upgraded to provide for 100 percent coverage of the populated areas of the county.

That construction process is on track for completion by April 1, 2012 but will not provide full coverage on Friday.

The "Reverse 911" system delivers a recorded message with information to all land-line phones and to cell phones that have been pre-registered by their owners.

To register a cell phone people should go online to county Emergency Management and follow the links to Project CODESPEAR and the registration links found there.  The website is found at www.hamiltoncountyohioema.org.
