JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - A Jackson County woman who crashed her car into a utility pole so hard it snapped in half is lucky to be alive. And so is the four-year-old she had with her in the front seat.

Jackson County Sheriff's investigators said the accident happened Friday near the waste water treatment plant on Seaman Road. When deputies arrived, they found the driver, Brandy Foreman, under the influence of narcotics. They said Foreman drove her Ford Probe off the road and struck a utility pole, snapping it from its base.

Sitting in the front passenger seat, in a safety seat but not buckled in, was a four-year-old girl. Deputies said her head had hit the windshield. After being taken to Ocean Springs Hospital by ambulance, the child was released to her father.

Foreman was arrested and charged with felony child abuse: contributing to neglect, DUI second offense, driving under suspended driver's license, implied consent law, simple possession of marijuana, and a child safety seat violation.

She's being held at the Jackson County Adult Detention Facility on a $30,000 bond.
