WEB EXCLUSIVE: Mystery: Old camera reveals 50 year old vacation pics

BURGAW, NC (WECT) - As the Editor of the Pender Post, Andy Pettigrew takes a lot of pictures.  Because of his profession, years ago, Pettigrew started collecting old cameras.

Recently, Pettigrew purchased some cameras from local antique dealer Michael Moore who was in need of some extra cash.  Moore had two or three old cameras, so Pettigrew bought them as a collection.

When the editor opened an old Kodak Brownie Hawkeye, he found a surprise inside.

"There was a roll of film inside that had been exposed," said Pettigrew. "I thought, well, this is interesting, what if we could get this developed, there could be pictures from the grassy lawn at the Kennedy Assassination."

Because he is a true newsman, Pettigrew had to know what was on the roll of film. This is what he found.

"The pictures were someone's vacation from Niagara Falls, New York, and what appeared to be Wrightsville Beach -- there were some beach pictures in there," said Pettigrew. "There were also a couple of family picnic pictures.  There are a lot of faces in there that you can see, but no indication other than the ones that were obviously Niagara Falls, no indication of anything else."

It is not known exactly when the pictures were taken, but looking at the car in one of the photographs, it may have been in the mid-60s.

Pettigrew has put all of the pictures on the Pender Post's website. So far, no one has come forward to identify the people in the pictures.

The John Tyler Lions always seem to look sharp in their uniforms. But thanks to East Texas lawyer Keith Miller, the Lions will look better and play safer. Helmets that advertise lowering the impact of hits, and possibly reduce the amount of concussions, come with a hefty price-tag. Miller's donation of 7,500 dollars, will go to help the lions cover that cost. "Keith Miller's been a big sponsor of John Tyler High School football program for years now.  I know it's...More >>

The last time we talked about the Kilgore Bulldogs, quarterback Buddy Jackson and wide receiver Jonathan Shepherd were apart of the 800-meter relay team that won gold at the 2017 state track meet. But today they are back in the pads, and looking to turn their speed into touchdowns.  Competing in District 9-4A, Kilgore has always had a strong run game that helped them become the 2016 District Champs.
