Davy Jones, lead singer of The Monkees dies at 66

He was the Justin Bieber of the 1960's.

Davy Jones died of a heart attack Wednesday morning, he was the lead singer of the Monkees.

Davy and his fellow band members starred in the popular TV show "The Monkees," which launched them to teen pop star status.

So just how big of deal was Davy Jones?

"He was probably the first musician I had a crush on," said Sandy Riaz, Davy Jones Fan.

"He was going to be my husband, give me a break I was convinced that we were going to get married and that he was going to wait for me forever," said Linda Reed, Davy Jones Fan.

Unfortunately, that never happened for Linda, which is ok with her since she got to spend plenty of time watching him on TV.

"We'd be sitting around waiting "Hey, hey we're the Monkees!" bouncing all over the couch. Mother would come upstairs and slam the door because we had the television way too turned up," said Linda.

These are the type of fans Top 40's DJ Bill Atkins had to deal with back in the 1960's- spinning records and giving the people what they wanted.

"That was a trend and people were crazy for them and it wasn't just the women I think they had an overall appeal," said Bill.

"I think I was 13 when the show was on and everyone had a crush on him we had posters of him especially him. He was the one everyone liked," said Sandy.

At 66- years-old, Davy passed away from a heart attack.

Proof for Linda that youth is not forever, but her memories of Davy are.

"It brings you back to a different era another time another place, and the joy that, that individual made. He's going to be missed," said Linda.

The Monkees was a group created for television, and had several hits, including Daydream Believer, Last Train to Clarksville and I'm a Believer.
