February tornadoes rip through the Midwest earlier than usual

Hope your Wednesday is going well! Here's what we're working on for you in the KLTV newsroom this afternoon:

Several East Texas law enforcement agencies are on the scene of a shooting in Titus County. Sheriff Ingram says the suspect has suffered a gunshot wound. We have a crew en route and are working to confirm the extent of the suspect's injuries. We'll know more at newstime, so make sure you  join us at 5 & 6 for the latest.

Tornadoes in February were an unwelcome, tragic surprise in the Midwest last night. At least 16 tornadoes popped up across the Midwest, from Nebraska to Tennessee. Though the people in that region are no strangers to twisters, they were not expecting to be hit with them in February. KLTV's Bethany Moore will update you with that story tonight at 5.

We are always so proud to share with you the amazing things that ETX students are up to in the classroom; we have a great one for you tonight. KLTV Photojournalist Lynn Mitchell  visited a physics class at Longview High School to witness....an eggdrop. You'll want to join us at 5 to find out what that's all about!

You may have heard the sad sounds all across East Texas today as children of the 1960s and '70s learned that the front man for the band The Monkees, Davy Jones, passed away today at the age of 66. KLTV's Samantha Jordan will share with you the response she got today from fans and a DJ who used to spin his records as she reminisced with them about the singer. She'll share that with us at 6.

Also at 6, Sports Director Ryan Peterson will have the news about the 2012  class being inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame tonight. Two of those inducted have ties to East Texas. Join us for that and all the latest in sports.

We'll see you soon!
