Centene Corp. could bring over 300 new jobs to ETX

More than 300 new jobs could be coming to Tyler by next year, courtesy of Centene Corporation.  Centene is a leading manager of health care services, and is looking at two places to call home: Tyler, Texas and an undisclosed city in Georgia.

This morning, Tyler city council passed a new resolution supporting Centene's application for enterprise zoning and funding from the State of Texas.

"We have been working with this prospect since last fall. We first talked to them in September. They were looking at a number of different cities in Texas, and they were also looking at a number of states," said Mayor Barbara Bass.

Eventually it came down to Tyler, where Centene could make a major investment of $15million and bring 325 new jobs.

Today, city council members helped efforts to make Tyler Centene's number one choice.

"They have data processing jobs that are going to be more entry-level but then they have very high-end information technology jobs in communications and marketing that are going to require some people with professional experience," said Tom Mullins.

Mullins said Centene Corporation will make the final decision within the next couple of months.
