Drilling At Lake Tyler Set To Begin

People who live around Lake Tyler tried one more time Wednesday to stop drilling at the lake, but their efforts fell short.

Speaking to an overflow crowd at City Council Chambers, Tyler Mayor Joey Seeber discussed the lease the city has signed with a private company to drill for natural gas at the lake.

The lease was originally approved back in December ,but continuing concerns from residents and a lawsuit filed against the city, prompted another meeting to be called to hear from residents.

Most who signed up to speak were against the drilling. The city said calls it's received have been overwhelmingly for drilling at the lake.

Despite concerns from the residents, more than two dozen of which spoke out, the City Council voted five to one to re-approve the lease. The council also approved the first five drill sites.

Drilling at the lake can begin anytime.

The lawsuit was filed against the city of Tyler on behalf of Lake Tyler residents. It will go in front of a judge this week. The pending lawsuit will not affect drilling at this time.
