ETX murder suspect arrested, police say more arrests likely

A follow-up tonight: police say more arrests could soon be made in a year-old East Texas murder case.

On Friday, 20-yr.old Samantha Gonzales Lara was arrested in connection to the robbery and murder of 25-yr. old Renee Garrett.

Renee was shot and killed in January of last year at the adult video store in Kilgore where she worked.

Renee Garrett's family found out Friday that Kilgore police arrested Samantha Lara.

"I've been crying a lot more again, it's been really hard. I went out to her grave and was talking to her, letting her know she can have her peace now," says Renee's aunt, Mary Isham.

Kilgore police have had a full time detective since Renee's murder in January 2011. They say Samantha worked at the adult video store with Renee at one point and they also say they believe more people are involved.

"Just based on evidence uncovered during the investigation there seems to be other parties involved," says Roman Roberson, the Kilgore Police Captain.

While the investigation continues, family and friends sigh with relief that justice is being served.

"I hope she gets what she deserves and then God will be there after to punish her," says Renee's sister, Amanda Garrett.

Samantha Lara was immediately booked into the Gregg County jail, and investigators hope more DNA evidence will lead to future arrests.

"It's getting easier, now that we know who's done it; it's a lot, a big relief," says Isham.

Until they find the rest who are involved in the murder, the family remembers the legacy Renee leaves behind.

"I miss her a lot, and she was the best person in my life," says Garrett.

Renee's family say police told them this was a planned murder, and police are planning to make more arrests in the case.

Samantha Lara was arraigned and her bond has been set at $500,000.
