Burglar takes cash, not drugs, from ETX vet clinic

Gladewater Police need your help in finding someone who broke into a veterinary clinic Sunday night.

This break-in happened at Veterinary Services of Gladewater.

Amanda Compton, with Veterinary Services of Gladewater, said she was surprised when she heard about the break in at her job, but said was more surprised when she found out what little the suspect took.

"In a vet clinic you have medications and stuff around and so that's the first place we looked, and there's equipment that's worth quite a bit of money and so for them just to grab the cash is surprising," said Compton.

"The person exited back through the window no medication or anything like that was touched," said Sgt.David Burrows, Gladewater Police Department.

Burrows said while not many vet clinics in the area have been broken into, they have plenty inside that could entice someone to break in.

"They have prescription drugs painkillers they have Ketamine which is commonly used out on the streets," said Burrows.

Employees at Veterinary Services of Gladewater said the suspect took a total of $150 - something that's never happened to them before.

"People look out for us in the community. We're one of the only vet clinics in this community and they hold Dr. Owens in a very high regard so the fact that someone would do something like this is not cool at all," said Compton.

Amanda said the clinic will be replacing the window, and beefing up their security is now a priority.

If you have any information, authorities ask that you contact Gladewater police or the Gregg County Sheriff's Office.
