CLASS 2A REGIONAL FINAL: Edgewood 62, Winnsboro 52

Susan Agesen scored a game high 34 points to lead Edgewood to a 10-point win over Winnsboro to advance to the 2A State Tournament.

"We knew that the regional was going to go through Winnsboro," said Agesen, "We split with them in district and now to beat them twice, we showed who was the best team."

Edgewood took an 8 point lead into the 4th quarter but gave it back to the Lady Raiders, who were led by Brea Draper's 25 points.

Edgewood, however, would battle back to eventually take the lead and win.

"There has not been a whole lot of cutting down the nets in Edgewood," said head coach Kyle Short, "This [trophy] will be real predominant in our trophy case."

CLASS 1A DIVISION I REGINAL FINAL : Martin's Mill 50, Sam Rayburn 36

Behind 20 points from freshman Cheyenne Brown and 18 from junior Haily Jenkins, Martin's Mill punched their ticket to their 7th consecutive state tournament.

"It is just amazing to be a part of this," said Brown, "This is something that I have dreamed of and it is just amazing to be in this position."

After being tied at 19 at halftime, the Lady Mustangs exploded for 31 points in the 2nd half as they pulled away from the Rebels.

"We have worked hard every single year," said Jenkins, "Our coach is one of my favorite people in the whole wide world, he pushes us and we worked hard for it."

The Neches Lady Tigers are headed back to the state basketball tournament, again.

Neches is now making their 4th consecutive trip to Austin after a 44-39 win over Saltillo in the 1A D-II regional final.

The Lady Tigers are also the 2-time defending state champion.

"Today was a big game for us," said senior Roddricka Patton, "They [Saltillo] were ranked #1 and we were #2, so we really wanted to come out and show everyone who was really #1."

Patton along with four other Neches seniors, have advanced to the state tournament every year they have been in high school.

"We knew this was going to be emotional," said senior Kristen Green, "We know these are the last two games of our career and we want to go out with another title."

The Lady Tigers will play in the 1A Division II State-semi Finals in Austin on Friday at either 2:00 or 7:00, which will be announced later this weekend.
