ETMC stabbing victim speaks out

An East Texas man accused of stabbing and attacking an ETMC nurse was arrested Wednesday afternoon.

According to police a relative noticed Royce Dewayne Allen in surveillance video and contacted authorities.

Allen is charged with aggravated robbery and is accused of robbing and stabbing Melinda Fox late Monday night outside the hospital.

Fox says she identified Allen in a line up after a relative and Allen's girlfriend reported him to police.

"It's just so exciting to know he's off the streets and that he'll be going away for a long time," Fox said.

Describing the attack, Fox said she tried to fight off Allen, even hitting him with her umbrella, before he stabbed her.

"I was just going to fight for what's mine," Fox said. "I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to take him down, but I wasn't going to give in."

While officers were apprehending Allen, they were able to find clothing connecting Allen to another ETMC attack in January, where a woman suffered a broken arm.

"I'm glad it was tied together so that way we won't have to worry about someone else being out there targeting family members and staff that come out," Fox said.
