TJC Board of Trustees to hold bond election

Tyler Junior College Board of Trustees have voted to hold a bond election.

The trustees made the decision during a board meeting at 11a.m. Thursday on the TJC campus.

Voters will head to the polls within the TJC tax district on May 12, 2012 to decide whether to pay for a $25 million bond package. That bond would finance the school's planned construction of a new allied health education building.

The bond, if approved, it will cost approximately $16 for a home valued at $100,000 living within the TJC tax district.

The $25 million is going to go toward the building and another $25 million is going to come from student fees and private donors.

A spokesman says this election will be the first bond election the trustees have asked for in more than 40 years.
