Woman celebrates a century of life

LONGVIEW,TX (KLTV)- She spends most of her free time growing flowers and vegetables at her home, and visiting residents of area rest homes, all at the tender age of 99. On any given day you can find Faye Campbell working on flowers and gardening at her Ore city home, something she's done of the 99 years of her life.

"She is out 6 days a week from morning till night she does her own gardening her own flower beds, does her own moving cuts limbs," says neighbor and friend Jan Griffin.

"Actually I enjoy that more than housework" Faye says.

She will be 100 on Saturday, but keeps a blistering routine, taking her own cut flowers to residents of area rest homes,`still driving herself driving everywhere.

"I had a lot of flowers a lot of roses , and I'd take them flowers," says Faye.

She visits rest homes in an effort to stop the old, from feeling old.

"When they go into a nursing home they're walking around and able bodied, and its not long before they're in a bed.  But I feel if you get out and do,  then you use your muscles," adds Faye.

Friends and neighbors are astounded at her energy.

"She just the best person that I've ever met in my life," says Griffin.

She's known by everyone in town, and her church will hold a special service for her birthday.

"I thought well I didn't know it was going to be that big. I didn't realize that they felt that way about me," Faye says.

She lives by a simple rule, enjoy life.

"I just depend on god to help me be with me in whatever I do," she says.

A Sunday service and birthday party for miss Campbell is scheduled for Sunday at first Baptist church of Ore city.
