E. Texans throw strikes and gutters for Junior Achievement

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Some threw a strike ball and others didn't. But, it doesn't matter. Bowlers here aren't competing in some PBA Tournament. This one's for the children.

It's the annual Junior Achievement Bowl-A-Thon. Bowlers raise money to help fund the Junior Achievement Program for East Texas students.  And, the program gives them a few life lessons they wouldn't usually get. They learn about taxes, economics and leadership.

"Kids will know in the future what kind of business they need to do. And, how taxes go...that kind of stuff," said nine-year-old student Cole Dobbins.

There are bowling prizes, including airfare and hotel-inclusive vacation, and even pieces of bowling pin art up for auction.

But, the biggest driving force behind the event is in the classroom.

"These kids get to see another Person come in and see that they are willing to spend time to teach them. They're not getting paid," said Teacher Shaina Clark.

The Bowl-A-Thon will also be taking place on Sunday from 3-5 PM.
