Henderson Food Bank running on empty

For 13 years, an East Texas couple has fed the hungry in Rusk County. Now, they are worried that their doors may have to close.

"I've been hungry. I know what it feels like and I don't want anybody, anybody to go hungry," said Henderson Food Bank Operator Patsy Louviere.

Patsy and her husband Noah run the food bank together. But, back in October, a motorcycle wreck nearly cost both Patsy and Noah their lives.

Patsy suffered nine broken ribs, an injured liver and a punctured lung. Noah broke his neck and ended up in a coma. Now, both have a hard time doing even the smallest tasks in the food bank.

Their daughter, April Stevens, retired from her job a few years ago to help her parents. And after their wreck...she had to take over most of the operations.

But, it is more than she can handle...her mother was the one who picked up donations...something April doesn't have time to do. Now, the shelves are going empty.

"We have to get some cash flow in here to get some food so we can give to people. If y'all want us to continue doing this we need y'all's help," said Stevens.

So, for now, the doors are open. And, hopefully with some help...the shelves will fill back up.
