ETX family 'humbled' after community pitches in to build new house

For years, a family of six have lived in poor condition in a home in Lindale. All six of them crammed in to an 8-hundred square foot home.  But not for much longer.

East Texas contractors, home builders, and many, many others are pitching in to help.

After living in a mobile home with holes in the floor and mold on the walls, Heather Harris couldn't believe the news, "It's very humbling, I mean who does that?"

After years of living in a small space, with little room to gather, the Harris family began to pray for better conditions.

"She was cooking on a dual burner for six people, so just all the amenities we take for granted, she'll have," says Lesa Bell, the volunteer and sponsor for the Harris'.

Bell noticed the need for a better home for the Harris', so she brought her home builder to see what he could fix.

"We could quickly determine that the repairs were beyond what the structure was," says Bill Andreason with Heritage Home Builders.

"They said we can't just fix this, that's just not going to be possible, and I was just devastated, I thought, oh no. So were just going to build you a new house," exclaimed Harris.

It won't be long before the Harris family can move out of their 800 sq. foot mobile home into a brand new, energy efficient 1600 sq. foot home with four bedrooms.

With the help of the community, Heritage Home Builders, and contractors, they have raised $60,000 so far.

"I think it's been a neat experience just watching the community come together and wanting to help them," says Bell.

"They are really sacrificing a lot to do that not because we're special or we've done anything great or deserve it, but it's because they love us and want to help, so we appreciate that," says Harris.
