LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

Longview Police have arrested two people accused of trespassing to steal copper.

On Saturday evening, a Longview Police officer observed the two suspects entering a vacant building in the 2,000 block of Judson Road.

Authorities say, upon confrontation with the officer, Timothy Emerson, 48, of Longview, attempted to flee. His accomplice, Melody Hawthorne, 37, of Mineola, obeyed the officer's orders and did not attempt to run, police say.

Officials say the copper wire that had been stripped by the duo was recovered.

Both Emerson and Hawthorne have been charged with criminal trespass and theft of material. Emerson was also charged with attempting to flee.

Both were transported to the Gregg County Sheriff's Office.
