Frozen precip possible late Sunday into Monday

Most of East Texas will receive rain, but some folks in our northern counties could see a wintry mix between Midnight and 6am. Most of East Texas will receive rain, but some folks in our northern counties could see a wintry mix between Midnight and 6am.

A developing storm system continues to drop rain, sleet and freezing rain across parts of West Texas, and this storm is headed towards East Texas.

As this system continues to progress to the East, it is encountering drier air, which is causing anything falling from the skies to evaporate before it hits the ground. This causes the air to cool, which is why some folks in West and Central Texas are seeing a mixture of rain and sleet.

Once this system moves into East Texas around midnight, most of us will just receive rain. However some folks in our northern counties could receive a bit of a wintry mix. Temperatures at the surface look to be just above freezing around this time, however just a few hundred feet up in the atmosphere, temperatures will be at or below freezing. These conditions can support a wintry mix at the surface. But because temperatures at the surface will be above freezing, it doesn't look like freezing rain will be an issue for us.

By 9 or 10am Monday, it looks like everything should be rain, though it will still be cold.
