Tyler police arrest driver who collided with a building

Released by the Tyler Police Department:

On 02-09-2012 at approximately 9pm, the Tyler Police Department was notified of a vehicle that had crashed into a vacant office building belonging to East Texas Medical Center Hospital at 1001 E. Lake St. 

Upon arriving on the scene, officers observed a blue and gray 1994 Ford F150 truck inside the building.  The truck had struck another vehicle in the parking lot before hitting the building.  Witnesses advised that the driver of the truck had fled the scene on foot.   

After a brief search, officers located the driver of the vehicle.  He was identified as Christopher Britton, age 42, of Palestine.  Britton was arrested and charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident as well as Driving While Intoxicated.

UPDATE: Police have apprehended Christopher Britton of Palestine after he crashed his car into the insurance building, and then fled the scene.

He was found near Beckham St. in Tyler and police suspect alcohol may be related.

Police also say the entrance of the building in the 1000 block of Lake St. was severely damaged as well as two vehicles parked in the parking lot.

 


 

Tyler Police officers are at the scene of a possible collision on East Lake Street.
