ETBU releases 2012 football schedule

East Texas Baptist University Release:

MARSHALL, Texas (2/9/12) – East Texas Baptist's 2012 football schedule begins with the Tigers playing just one home game through the first week of October but closing with three out of four games to be played in Ornelas Stadium against conference opponents.

ETBU will begin the season at home on Sept. 1 with a rematch against nationally-ranked Wesley College, which overcame an early Tiger lead last season to post a 34-10 win in the 2011 season opener in Dover, Del.

That will be the only home game for ETBU until Oct. 6, when the Tigers will return home to host Louisiana College in an American Southwest Conference game.

Following the opener against Wesley, ETBU will play at Austin College in Sherman on Oct. 8, followed by a trip to the West Coast to play Willamette University in Salem, Ore., on Sept. 15.

The Tigers will then have an open date on Sept. 22 before opening up ASC play on the road in Seguin on Sept. 29, against Texas Lutheran. That will be followed by the home date against LC, then a road game in Abilene at Hardin-Simmons on Oct. 13.

Howard Payne visits ETBU on Oct. 20 for homecoming, followed by a trip to Clinton, Miss., against Mississippi College on Oct. 27. The Tigers then close out the season at home against Mary Hardin-Baylor on Nov. 3 and Sul Ross State on Nov. 10.

Gone from this year's schedule is McMurry, which will leave the ASC for the NCAA Division II ranks.

Starting times for all games will be released at a later date.

With the smallest enrollment in District 17-5A, and really across the entire classification, Lindale could use that as an excuse for a sub-par season. But under defensive coordinator, turned head coach Chris Cochran, that won't be the case.
