At the age of 70, Longview's Billie Bell discovered quilting, and she's been making up for lost time ever since. She's made 55 quilts in the past 14 years. Since Bell doesn't own a sewing machine, reach quilt is hand pieced, hand quilted, and embroidered. Her latest quilt is a Black History Quilt, with scenes ranging from slavery, sit-ins, voting, sports, and the military.

With a lot of research but no pattern, she created the quilt one square at a time. The quilt took a year to finish.

Bell doesn't sell her quilts, but does lend them for public dispays. Other favorite quilts are her library quilt, Caulder quilt ,and American Flag quilt, all truly works of art.
