ETX Man jailed after DWI and biting a police officer

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

An East Texas man is jailed after a traffic stop for DWI and biting a police officer.

Longview Police stopped 37 year old Boyce Ara Smith of Hughes Springs on Friday for failure to signal a turn on Judson Rd.

Investigators say Smith had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and smelled of alcohol. Refusing to provide a breath and blood specimen, he was transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center for a mandatory blood draw, where he resisted and bit the hand of a police officer on scene.

Smith has three prior convictions for driving while intoxicated.

He remains jailed on $20 thousand dollars bond, charged with driving while intoxicated, third or more offense and assault on a public servant.
