Lone finalist to be recommended for Lee coaching job

Fairfield head football coach and athletic director Darrell Piske will be recommended as the next head football coach and campus coordinator at Tyler Lee High School.  Tyler ISD has called a board meeting for Monday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.

Tyler ISD athletic director Rod Kaspar had hoped to hire a new coach before Thursday's UIL realignment.  Multiple finalist for the job dropped out, but Kaspar is says he's excited about coach Piske.

"He's (Coach Piske) going to come in with a lot of energy," said Kaspar.  "He was 20-and-3 the last two years at Fairfield and has a lot of winning experience behind him."

The last two years have been rough for Red Raider football.  Lee has had two head coaches and just three combined wins.  Kaspar believes Piske will be the man to turn the program around.

"He's (Coach Piske is in it for the kids," said Kaspar.  "He'll work the kids hard and I believe will be the next coach to take Lee in a different direction."

The John Tyler Lions always seem to look sharp in their uniforms. But thanks to East Texas lawyer Keith Miller, the Lions will look better and play safer. Helmets that advertise lowering the impact of hits, and possibly reduce the amount of concussions, come with a hefty price-tag. Miller's donation of 7,500 dollars, will go to help the lions cover that cost. "Keith Miller's been a big sponsor of John Tyler High School football program for years now.  I know it's...More >>
