3-year-old found after nearly six hours

Three-year-old Zoey Smith is cold and wet, but finally safe.

"It's just a blessing and I am so glad because things like this sometimes don't turn out this good, but God is good," said Zoey's grandmother, Betty Smith.

The search lasted nearly six hours and required the assistance of everyone from Big Sandy's Alert Cadets to the FBI.

"I've been Sheriff a little over eleven years and we've never had a missing child. I only have one child and it's a girl so this is very near and dear to my heart, and that's why I am going to do everything in my power to bring her back safe and get her back home," said Van Zandt County Sheriff Pat Burnett.

A DPS helicopter equipped with heat signature-sensing cameras circled the area for hours, but nothing turned up.

"We've had a lot of things happen during my time period, but this will be the worst," Sheriff Burnett said.

As authorities wrapped up for the evening, a couple began a search of their own. Just more than two miles away, they found little Zoey clinging to her dog, Brownie, that never left her side.

Authorities told us that tonight Zoey has been taken to a child advocacy center to be interviewed.
