John Tyler employee accused of sexual harassment no longer employed

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

UPDATE: Tyler ISD says the employee accused of sexually harassing a female student no longer works for the district.

Last week, the mother of the student told the principal of John Tyler High School that she wanted to press charges against the employee.

So far, there is no word on if the employee has been charged with any crime.

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Tyler ISD is working on an investigation right now after an East Texas mother told the principal of John Tyler High School that she wanted to press charges against an employee.

According to the student's mother, the employee made sexual advances towards her daughter.

Charlotte Jiles says her daughter was sexually harassed while she was at school, "He had approached her twice asking her if she would have sex with him."

According to Jiles, her 16-year-old daughter who is a sophomore at John Tyler isn't the only victim, "To my knowledge there have been other young ladies who have come forth saying he has done the same thing to them."

The student says that's what gave her courage to tell her mom, "I told one of my associates and they told me he's talking to them like that, so you know it was time to speak up on that."

The family says it wasn't just once that the employee said something sexual to her, it happened three times. "He approached me and he was like can we, you know, have sexual intercourse," says the student.

The family says the man is an employee at the school, but isn't a teacher.

School officials say the district began an investigation immediately after these allegations. It is considered an ongoing investigation but the school says, appropriate precautions will be taken.

Jiles says she is just glad her daughter felt comfortable enough to do the right thing by telling her, but is hopeful the employee will soon be off campus.

"I thought it was right to tell my mom cause I knew she could do something about it," says Jiles.

According to Jiles, her daughter spoke with a female employee at John Tyler before she came to her, and the employee told her to not tell anyone.

Jiles says her daughter wrote a complaint against both the male and the female employee.
