An East Texas woman was arrested and charged with driving under the influence with children in her vehicle.

According to the arrest affidavit, around 6pm Monday, a Rusk County deputy was patrolling Highway 79 near Carthage when he clocked a vehicle driven by Amelia Karen Schoolcraft, 47, going 86 mph in a 55 mph zone.

The deputy smelled a strong odor of alcohol on Schoolcraft after pulling her over and she was unsteady when trying to stand on her feet. A sobriety test was administered and it was determined that Schoolcraft was intoxicated.

There were two children under the age of 15 riding in the vehicle with her.

Schoolcraft was arrested and charged with DWI/child passenger under 15, which is a state jail felony offense. Her bond has been set at $10,000 and any vehicle driven by Schoolcraft must have an ignition interlock device, which uses a deep-lung breath analysis to make the vehicle cannot be driven if alcohol is detected on the breath. This will be purchased at Schoolcraft's own cost.
