Gregg Co. files request for joint primary

Republican and democratic primary voters in Gregg County may need to go to the same place on the same day.

On Monday, Gregg County Commissioners filed a request for a joint primary election on April 3.

If that request is approved, the county will have until next Monday, February 6, to agree on a map of election districts and get it approved by the courts.

County officials say that deadline is already causing a setback getting voter registration cards out.

"We have a lot of calls from people asking where is my new card and unfortunately we have to tell them everything has been put on hold we can't mail the cards until we have an okay to go from the District Court," says Gregg County Election Administrator Kathryn Nealy.

Both parties will also have to certify the list of candidates so voting machines can be programmed and tested.
